ANNA WALLACE
The Space Between Spaces
Through this project I have been able to understand and engage with the idea of manipulating space from a new and exciting angle that shows the impact of fashion and interior. I have tackled the forever expanding realm of fashion from an abstracted point, focusing not only on garments but on everything else that goes into the mix of making fashion not just an item but an indelible experience that pushes and pulls on your emotions and senses. I have tied together the ever evolving Danish streetstyle and interior through the use of abstract shapes and vibrant colours, which catches your eye, disturbs you, confuses you and makes a space playful and bold.
With a key interest being the neglected or hidden spaces of the open countryside, I have filled them and transformed them into small zones of emotional and sensory exploration that contains and holds onto a viewer and their thoughts for a period of time. I want the viewer to be more of a participant, who is there activating the space through them just simply occupying it. With this idea of contrast in mind, I am forever looking for new ways to flip a space upside down through what I choose to put in and around it. The main idea is about giving someone an experience they weren’t expecting, by contrasting the location and the history of the space with the contents that overtakes it. The viewer then bridges this space between spaces and ties it all together.
