GENERAL ART & DESIGN LEVEL 3 YEAR 1

ABBEY HARPER-ROWE

I have based my FMP on the flipside theme “trapped and free”. I have been looking at the concepts of personal style, specifically my own, and how it can differ from society and general beauty standards. My project is inspired by the strong people I see online who voice their opinions on style. I have produced a series of three stamps in the style of a ‘first day cover’ each to represent an aspect of my style in a way that shows how despite being pushed down by a society we are free to dress however we want.

APRIL PALFREY

The concept I have chosen to focus on is Conflict and Peace. My final project is based on exploring the contrast between conflict and peace in Interior Design by using the styles of maximalism and minimalism. My aim is to show that both are a great choice of styles and have key defining elements that differently impacts the viewer when they walk into the room

BRIAGHA GRANT

I chose to focus my FMP on the artist Frida Kahlo because we are very similar. After all the research that I have done on Frida Kahlo I have learnt to be happy with myself. It is okay to express my feelings through my art work.

ELENA GOODMAN

My FMP is based on the theme of Friends/Enemies in the setting of War. I explored truces in the war that brought enemies together to become friends and raised the question 'can we really hate someone we don't know?'. I have represented my concept by creating a selection of posters that have been presented in the form of an old newspaper. The posters are highlighting the truces I researched and are presented in a style of old wartime propaganda posters.

EMILY LOUDWELL

The concept I have chosen for my FMP is artificial/natural. My concept stemmed from the idea of how robots could evolve to have human emotions, thoughts and feelings. I flipped this and developed the idea of humans becoming cyborgs.

I have produced a series of promotional material for a TV series, I have created: Cyborg Runner. A poster, a Netflix edit, a short gif and a range of logos capture the futuristic neon noir style with elements of robotic features. The impact my work has on the viewer depends entirely if they are for or against the rapid development of technology

EMILY PIPER

I have based my FMP on the flipside theme strength and weakness. I have produced a series of drawings that link to memories that I have of my Dad. The drawings have helped me to explore how people grieve when they lose someone that they love.

FREYA SMITH

The flipside theme that I have based my FMP on is MACRO/MICRO. I have focused on creating pieces of art from microscopic sources, drawing directly from minuscule images that I viewed under the microscope. My intention is to make the audience aware of the beautythat exists in the world that often goes unnoticed and undetected.

FREDDIE BARNBY

This piece of art was inspired by the flipside words strength and weakness. I related these words to boxing as you have opposite opponents, opposite corners, opposite stance and opposite punches. Being a boxer myself for “Albion Boxing club in Cambridge” this topic was really inspirational for me bringing my childhood hobby and potential future into a project and onto a canvas.

JOANNE ABBLIT

The concept of my FMP is based on social media and the negative effects that it has on society. I have researched and focused on the negative emotions that social media can have on people such as negative emotions, image issues etc.
Ultimately my outcomes are a “campaign for change” in a series of posters that will highlight to society the impact that social media has on us all.

JOSEPH STEWART

For my FMP I wanted to explore the idea that at a certain point in the evolution of the planets the process could have flipped! To do this I wanted to use the “Purple Earth Hypothesis”. This hypothesis is that before chlorophyll was used in the photosynthesis process a chemical substance called retinal was used. Chlorophyll gives plants the green colour we are used to seeing but retinal results in a violet hue. For my project I wanted to give an artistic impression of how today’s plants might look if they used retinal to photosynthesize.

LILY KRANTZ

The concept of my FMP is based on the flipside theme trapped/free. I have focused my work on researching into virtual reality and characters. I have questioned how you can become trapped in or addicted to the virtual world. It is a form of escapism from reality and real life problems. I have created a range of illustrations that portray different characters and emotions during the stages of the game. My work has an underlying message about virtual reality but I also hope that the audience find it visually exciting

MICAYLA JENKINS

For my FMP I was prompted by the current animal welfare crisis that happens across the globe and wanted to create several outcomes which highlight this problem and therefore will spread awareness to my audience. I predominantly used Procreate to draw in, which allows me to illustrate my outcomes digitally, with a lot of creative freedom.

NATHAN MULLEY

The flipside theme that I have based my FMP on is enemy/ friend. I have created a series of outcomes that question the impact that modern technology and robots has had on out world. Is technology our enemy or friend?

PATRYCJA JATCZYSZYN

My project is based on the flipside theme trapped and free. I have researched and explored the institutions of prisons and how freedom can be taken away from people. My art work is based on how prisoners are trapped in a concrete, secure building that restricts them from the outside world.

SHANNON MAKCROW

My FMP is based on the concept of identity within social media. I have investigated how social media allows people to create a fake identity of themselves, controlling the images, filters and tools that manipulate their real life photographs and selfies. Social media had a huge impact on me at School, I aim to portray a message that makes the audience aware of the negative connotations concerned with using social media within my fine liner illustrations.

SUMMER ADAMS

My concept is order and disorder. I have created four A2 portraits of woman portraying emotions felt in quarantine. This work is based on my personal life and an article I found about emotions in lockdown.  My outcomes portray the balance of positive and negative emotions.

TOMASZ RUTKOWSKI

My FMP concept is about the importance and beauty of nature. I have chosen the theme changeable and constant. I want to show people how climate change, pollution and other human impacts affect the wildlife. I have created 30 pointillism illustrations which will represent critically endangered and extinct species.
