THE MARS AWARD
(Maths, Art, Religion & Science)
The School of Art and Design at West Suffolk College
The MARS Award was born in 2015. This is our own innovation and has been shared with other colleges nationally. The vision for this is for all 400+ of our FE Art & Design students (in term 2) to embark on a set assignment that will ‘fuse’ all four areas of MARS (Maths, Art, Religion & Science) together into one dynamic learning experience. It is a wonderful opportunity for all staff and students to develop their inquisitive minds.
In 2020 the theme was ‘Japan’.
There are winners on each course and then an overall winner – judged by an invited panel. The winner of the 2020 MARS Award is Robyn Beach (L3 Extended Diploma Art & Design (General) year 2).
In 2017 we won The Times Newspaper TES Award for ‘Best Teaching and Learning Initiative’. This was a huge honor and at the time Theresa May PM congratulated us in Prime Ministers Questions stating that ‘all colleges should strive to reach this standard’.
